The Merchant Navy is the commercial shipping sector responsible for transporting goods, oil, passengers, and raw materials across the world’s oceans. It’s the backbone of global trade, operating cargo ships, tankers, and container vessels.
After 10th: You can join through the GP Rating Course (6 months).
After 12th (Science with PCM): You can pursue DNS (Diploma in Nautical Science), B.Sc. Nautical Science, or Marine Engineering.
After Graduation: Courses like GME (Graduate Marine Engineering) or ETO (Electro-Technical Officer) are available.
All training must be completed at a DG Shipping–approved institute.
Age: Usually 17 to 25 years (varies by course).
Education: Minimum 10th or 12th with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics with scored in minimum 60% in Pcm.
Qualified IMU-CET Exam & Jee Mains.
Medical: Physically fit and 6/6 eyesight without color blindness (verified by DG Shipping–approved doctors).
Deck Side: Deck Cadet → Third Officer → Second Officer → Chief Officer → Captain
Engine Side: Engine Cadet → Fourth Engineer → Third Engineer → Second Engineer → Chief Engineer.
Salaries depend on rank, ship type, and company.
Deck/Engine Cadets: ₹45,000 – ₹75,000/month
Junior Officers: ₹1.5–3 lakh/month
3rd Engineer/2nd Officers: ₹3.5–5 lakh/month
Chief Officers/2nd Engineer: ₹6–8 lakh/month
Chief Engineers/Captains: ₹9–12 lakh/month or more
